Bunch of Stuff

Yesterday I FINALLY completed all of the grades for my students back at WMU (grades were due April 26th - I had to give everyone an incomplete). Due to a problem with the Fed Ex delivery of their final exams, I didn't get the grades done until last week and then there were problems with submitting the new grades online, bla bla bla. Anyway, I have all of that stuff worked out and will mail the hard copy grade-change-forms in on Monday - thank goodness that is out of my hair.

Last night while I was walking home from the bus, a few bats flew out of the tree they tend to hang out in and I just sort of paused for a second, no big jump, no cursing this time, and kept on cruising home. I'm not sure if getting used to giant bats is a good thing or not.

Today, as Dave was putting the boys into their car seats, he accidentally turned on the windshield wipers and without any rain/moisture on the windshield, they made this noise that sounded an awful lot like the bats do when they take off. I was standing right next to the car at this point, and this time - I jumped. Maybe I'm not quite used to them yet, and maybe that's not such a bad thing.

Going to a Brisbane Lions (Aussie rules football) game tonight. Should be a good time.

Happy Mother's day to all of you wonderful moms!

Motown

For about 4 or 5 days, I was really intensely missing home, I mean I miss home and obviously Karen and the kids EVERY day, but I mean a real intense sadness. This morning when I got on the bus, I popped on my iPod two people who always make me feel better - Saginaw's own Stevie Wonder and queen of Motown, Anita Baker. There's something real.......I don't know, primal, or familiar about them - the type of familiarity ...., hmmm...something in their voices that makes me feel "at home" no matter where I am.

And dig this line when Stevie starts in with, "Over time, I've been building my castle of love, just for two, though you never knew you were my reason. Over dreams, I have picked out a perfect "come true", though you never knew it was of you I've been dreaming".

How can I hear that and not think that's exactly what's happened to me with Karen, Eddie, & Heather - I've built my castle and my perfect 'come true' has done just that.

440? 441?

I woke up early today so I could get to the office earlier and get some things done before class. I tried to catch a 7:15a.m. bus and I did - unfortunately....it was the wrong bus! it took me completely out of my way, which I didn't realize because I took a nap on the bus and when I opened my eyes I had no idea where I was! Luckily, it ended at the main bus station downtown and I caught another bus back to Toowong (shopping center) and another bus from there to the Uni. So instead of getting to work by about 8, I got there at 9:30. Live and learn! No real problem - I will just have to adjust my schedule now a bit today.

Had a really quiet slow weekend this past weekend. It was another national holiday, Labor Day, and I spent the weekend grading tests, taking a few long walks, and watching Australian t.v. For those of you counting along with me - only 38 days.
